How to use the icebreaker generator
- Pick a category that fits your group, or leave it on All categories for variety.
- Share your screen on a video call, or read the question out in the room.
- Go round the group. Use the turn picker for a random speaking order so nobody has to volunteer first.
- Press Next question for another one. You will not see a repeat until the whole category has been used.
Why icebreakers work
An icebreaker is not about the answer. It gets every person to speak once, early, in a low-stakes way. People who have already spoken in a meeting find it much easier to speak again when a real decision is on the table, and quieter team members get a moment that is theirs.
A good question is easy to answer, has no wrong answer, and reveals a little about the person. A poor one puts someone on the spot, needs a long story, or touches something private. Every question in this generator has been chosen with that test in mind.

Choosing the right kind of question
For a weekly meeting, use a quick question that takes a word or a sentence, such as those in team meeting icebreakers or this or that.
For a new team or new hire, use questions that also tell people how each other likes to work, from icebreakers for new teams.
For a workshop, start with questions that tell you what the room already knows, from training icebreakers.
For a team that knows each other well, try deeper questions to go beyond small talk.

Questions people ask
How does the icebreaker generator choose questions?
It shuffles every question in the category you pick and shows them one at a time, so you never see a repeat until you have seen them all. Then it starts again in a new order.
Are the questions safe for work and school?
Yes. Every question is written to be answerable by anyone in a workplace or classroom. None ask about health, money troubles, religion, politics or relationships.
How long should an icebreaker take?
For a regular meeting, aim for about 30 seconds per person, so five minutes at most for a team of eight. A workshop or a new team's first meeting can give it longer.
Can I use these questions for free?
Yes. Use them in your meetings, classes and events. Every question is also listed on its category page if you want to print or copy a set.
